Being In The *Now* Versus The Now

Almost every “Think and Grow Rich” type of books that tell you to think only about what it is you want and not what you don’t want, like to completely gloss over and not address how to do it.

Face it, you may be competely desperate. You want to have more money in your life, but it is kind of hard to ignore the present reality. How exactly is one to focus on what they want when reminders are screaming at them?

What does one do when they know there are only a few dollars left in their pocket, credit cards are maxed out, the bank account is at a negative balance, none of their friends or family have the money to lend them, their credit is bad, the children are screaming for new clothes and school supplies, the utility company is threatening to cut something off, rent or mortgage is way overdue and your family is threatened with eviction,… and everyone is expecting you to make the next move to make it right now and you have no clue as to what to do?

Or say you have stage 3 level of cancer or some other sort of life threatening illness which requires aggressive treatment and it is making you so sick that it is very hard to focus on anything other than the fact that right now you do not feel very good and feel like your body is dying… how exactly do you focus on what you want, to feel better with a reversal in your condition, as opposed to what you don’t want, to be dying which is screaming in your face?

Books like that appeal to the desperate who need a way out, but they fail to address how is one in really dire straits to focus on what they want when what they don’t want is begging for attention right now.

All of these books recommend you only focus on what you want and stop thinking about what you do not want or else you will get more of what you do not want.

They don’t tell the reader any effective way how to do this when they are surrounded by things that need their attention now and they have no answers, therefore all they are able to focus on is the problems before them now.

The result, a person feels completely hopeless and out of control and then beat themselves up for not getting out of this loop because they are unable to focus on what they want instead of what they do not want.

There are laws of the universe which work to our benefit, but sometimes those laws work against us. The law of gravity is what makes this planet support life, but if you jump off a cliff you will fall down and suffer that consequence no matter how good of a person you are or how positive you think.

For every action, there is an opposite reaction. Sometimes the actions you create are good ones and othertimes they are bad. Both will create either a positive or negative reaction. You are on a planet with other free-willed people who have the capacity to make good or bad actions which can fall on the feet of others.

The universe is made up of choas and sometimes you do not invite it, but others bring it to you. Sometimes you have made a bad choice and you have to reap what you sow. Whether you created your current situation from bad judgements or you are in it because of the actions of others is a moot point when you have reached dire straits. You want help now!!

If you do something harmful to your body, you threaten your lifespan. If your body has cells that stop functioning normally and start to die off, you will soon follow. Sooner or later, your body will die because it will cease to function. Your mental attitude will go a long way to keep you alive, but when your body starts to break down you will follow unless you find a way to reverse the process which will only stall the inevitable. [Do you really want to know what a world would be like if people lived forever?]

Well, then, what does one do to concentrate on what they want instead of what they do not want?

The key is to being in the *now* instead of what is happening now. What is happening now is a result of what already occurred. It is the fallout of past moments creating your current version of reality. That now is something you cannot change because it is your current experience and your chance to learn from what is happening. You must NEVER ignore it because if you ignore it you will never learn from it.

Those events happening in your current reality must be dealt with. You can’t just stick your head in the sand and hope everything will go away. It won’t. And you won’t be able to focus on what you want until you address what is happening now. It is just too much of a distraction.

All of these positive thought books will concede that you should be in a room without the distraction of people, television, music and everything else that will take your attention on your focus, but they do a disservice by not getting rid of the distraction of your current problems.

Let’s say some utility is going to be shut off and you do not have the money to pay the bill. This problem weighs heavy on your mind and your thoughts go back to the fear of dealing with life without that utility and how it will affect you and your family. At the moment, you feel like you are lying to yourself if you try and pretend that you have an abundance of money and all your bills are paid because through this lie to yourself you are magnifying the fact you do not have the money to pay the bill right now.

The solution is to address the problem and deal with it. You can either accept that your utility will be cut off until you can figure out how to pay it and be okay about it OR you can call the utility company and explain your situation and make payment arrangements you can stick by OR if they are unwilling to accept your arrangement you will have to accept that this is how it will be and perhaps ask family, friends or a charity organisation for help and if there is no help for you on this front you must accept that this consequence will come to pass and you must deal with it.

You may even want to address the issue of how you got to that point in the first place. Learn from your mistakes and try not to do that again.

With that issue settled, whether to your liking or not, is settled. You know what will transpire either way and you can brace yourself for what is next. Then you no longer have to focus on that bill nagging you now, but you will have to deal with it at a later time. This leaves you free to focus on the *NOW* connection with god/god within/all that is and give thanks for what you do have while you plan out your future now. With the distraction of what you do not want is addressed then you can focus on what you do want.

What if you are seriously ill and could die? What if you want to live, but the doctors do not give you much hope? There are many cases of those facing the same issue who have made complete recovery while others were not that fortunate. Some were even convinced there was nothing left to be done and they were going to die, so it wasn’t positive thinking that saved them from death while others did think positively and died anyway.

The body is a very complex structure. While a good attitude will help you more than those with a bad attitude, your thinking is not the sole reason why your body works or not. Everything inside must work together in a proper fashion. When one area is out of sorts, it causes other areas to work harder to compensate and sooner or later something spirals out of control causing one to come closer to death.

Medical treatment sometimes is the answer. Sometimes a change in diet and exercise. Sometimes it is just a fluke. And sometimes positive expectations and prayer does work.

In the meantime, what can you do if your now reality is one of sickness and it is hard for you to focus on what you want of not to be sick?

Ask your doctor what you can do that will help your condition.  Read as much information you can about it.  Join a support group with people going through the same thing.  Be as active as you can about what is happening to you now and learn to accept that this is happening now and you can’t do much about your current reality which is coming to pass.  Accept that as fact and then you can clear your mind to focus on your *NOW* center to plan out what it is you do want as the distraction of current reality is gone until it is time for you to deal with it again.

The difference between now and *NOW* is the first is your current reality that has been in the making for some time while the second is that peaceful connection where there is nothing but you and the god-source.  That *NOW* connection is where it all happens and you cannot acheive that connection until you are no longer distracted by your now reality.

Deal with what is going on now.  Accept that things are that way and either you can do something about it or you cannot.  If you can do something about it, do it.  If you cannot do something about it, accept that you will endure the consequences.  When you deal with it and accept what will happen, it frees your mind.  When your mind is free from that hamster wheel, other solutions often show up or the fear you thought would pass turns out to be not as bad.

Fear of the unknown is what keeps our heads spinning.  It is what traps us in that cycle of focusing on what we do not want instead of what we want.  Fear is really silly except when you have an actual emergency and you need the adreneline to react.  Fear tells you that everything is useless and nothing will work and all will be lost so it prevents you from seeing things in a different manner.

Dealing with your current reality is dealing with fear.  Face it and you will find things may be bad, but not something that cannot be dealt with.  It might be uncomfortable and unpleasant, but isn’t it better to get it over with than to sit still and wait for it to overcome you?

If you know a storm is coming when you are planning to taking a trip, would you try to forget about it and go unprepared into the storm while fearing in the back of your mind of how you are not ready for what will happen?  Or would you plan your trip to deal with what could result and make alternative routes?

Getting into that *NOW* zone depends on a clear mind.  You cannot possibly focus on what you want when what you want is front and center.  Get that problem behind you first so you can focus *NOW*.

  1. Interesting post. It’s very hard not to think about the things that worry us. I have read a lot about thinking positive and the intention-manifestation model and I try to follow it whenever I can.

    One thing I do enjoy is closing my eyes and relaxing while I play a movie in my head about where I want to be and what I want to have. After doing this for about ten minutes, I feel great!

    I do agree with you though. It’s definitely not easy to do when you have a lot of things on your mind.
